In April, inbound cargo at major U.S. container gateways fell to 2.05 million TEUs, a decrease of 5.1% from March and 7.3% from April 2025, according to the Global Port Tracker report by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates. The Port of New York and New Jersey's data is not included. Despite this decline, the NRF anticipates a temporary increase in imports for May and June as retailers expedite shipments to mitigate potential tariff hikes and rising fuel costs. May imports are projected at 2.14 million TEUs, a 9.7% year-over-year rise, while June is expected to reach 2.25 million
TEUs. However, a downturn is forecasted for the second half of the year, with July through October estimates showing declines compared to the previous year.
