The former Nippon Maru, a cruise ship built in 1990, has been beached in Alang, India, marking its retirement after over 2,000 cruises. It was the first cruise ship to be scrapped in nearly a year. Other notable retirements include the Astoria, built in 1948, which is currently being dismantled in Belgium after being sold in July 2025. The former Celestyal Crystal and Celestyal Olympia, both retired in 2025, were also sent to Alang for scrapping. The Ocean Atlantic, built in 1986, concluded its service in May 2025 and was sold to a Turkish shipbreaking yard. These retirements reflect a
trend in the cruise industry as older vessels are phased out.
